Those Twenny-Twenny Blues

from Long Train A-Rollin' by Marc Nerenberg

/

about

When I've sat down to improvise on the banjo during the last few days of 2020, bits and pieces of this heart-felt comment on that terrible year percolated out of my subconscious, though they did not organize themselves into an actual song - just different bits on different days. Then I sat down just before the end of the year, with pen in hand, and organized them into this year ending blues song. It has a bit of an odd structure for a blues - a 16 bar blues chorus, and a ballad form verse. It's not about the facts, just about how that awful year makes me feel. This was written and recorded on 28 December 2020, on a banjo tuned gFCFA (when the 5th fret capo position is taken into account) and a Bb harmonica played cross-keyed in F. I use a hybrid mix of clawhammer and thumb lead finger picking as my banjo playing style.
